Advanced Search/Authoring Console - Adding Searchable Attributes from Properties Pane

When using Advanced Search from the authoring console, the list of available attributes is limited (possibly system default). I am trying to determine whether it’s possible to add additional article attributes, such as “Description” or “Notes” which are both fields in the properties pane, as searchable attributes.

Has anyone successfully configured additional property fields within the advanced search function in the authoring console? Or does anyone know if this is controlled at the system/configuration level only? Any guidance or best practices would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes, you can add additional fields to the Advanced Search, including the Description and Keywords and others. The Notes field, however, is not available.

To change the fields that are available, log in as an administrator, and follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Administration Console
  2. Select the department you want to modify
  3. Go to the Tools navigation option
  4. Select the Screen Attributes option
  5. Find the Knowledge Base Console - Search - Article - Advanced screen option
  6. Click the + in the upper right corner of the list of searchable attributes
  7. Select the attributes you want to add
  8. Click Save

Now when you go to the Advanced Search Screen, those attributes should show up.

Keep in mind that this is a Department Level setting. If you have multiple departments, it should be done for each department you want modified.

Hi Mark!

Hope you are doing well

Thank you so much! I could not find this guidance in the user guides.

Your instructions are very clear and very appreciated!
